Lifelong Learning constantly works in the future, as well as the present. By that I mean that we are always working on learning initiatives for the upcoming semester and year, as we implement other programs/courses on a daily basis.
Yesterday we finished editing the Adult Education and Community Learning spring brochure. The brochure will be mailed to residents of Franklin, Bellingham and Wrentham. It includes a number of traditional offerings: Volleyball, Basketball, Yoga, Zumba, Language, Photography, Writing, Dance and more. Additionally, it features new courses offered in collaboration with businesses from Franklin and the surrounding communities: Kettlebells for Women with f.i.t. of Bellingham, Wine and Chocolate Tasting with Franklin Liquors and Green Mountain Chocolates, IPAs -- Hoppy Ales with Pour Richards, and Ladies Snowshoe/Trek and Ladies Light Hike with Nanci Cahalane and held in Foxboro.
We are in the process of receiving course proposals for the Summer Programs. Faculty and staff are proposing courses for students from kindergarten through grade 12. Their creativity and dedication make the Summer Program an enriching experience for all involved. Watch the Franklin Public Schools website in mid-January for registration information.
Lifelong Learning is a department within the Franklin Public Schools. The leadership provided by the Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Sabolinski, is critical to the success of this department. Her leadership reinforces and supports the mission and purpose of Lifelong Learning.

After School Music

Franklin Public Schools provides after school music instruction on a variety of instruments, as well as in different settings.
The String School of Franklin, directed by Ms. Plouffe, rehearses on Monday afternoons at the Horace Mann Middle School. The learning opportunities include beginner string instruction on violin, viola, cello and bass. As the student advances in music knowledge and playing ability, he/she enrolls in the Intermediate Orchestra followed by the Preparatory Orchestra. The Repertory Orchestra, participation by audition, includes advanced string players from the greater Franklin community.
The After School 4th/5th Grade Band, under the direction of Mr. Donegan, rehearses on Tuesday afternoons at the Horace Mann Middle School. There is beginner instruction on flute, clarinet, saxophone (for 5th graders only), trumpet, and trombone. Fifth grade students, who studied a band instrument in the 4th grade, are eligible for participation in the Intermediate Band.
The 4th/5th Grade Honors Chorus, co-directed by Ms. MacMurray and Ms. Fuller, rehearses on Thursday afternoons at Oak Street Elementary School. Participation in this ensemble is limited to 60 students.
The Private Music Lesson program takes place at the high school on Monday through Thursday afternoons/evenings. The day of the week for lessons is determined by the faculty member's schedule. Instruction is available in voice, as well as the following instruments: bass, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar (acoustic, bass or electric), low brass, percussion, piano, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and tuba.Private instruction is open to students from 5th grade through adult.

June, 2014 marks the 50th graduation anniversary for the Franklin High School Class of 1964. This class was the second class to graduate from Franklin High School when it was located in the building currently known as the Horace Mann Middle School.
Members of the Class of 1964 are invited to process into the Field House as part of the graduation ceremonies of the Class of 2014. The presence of these Golden Graduates reinforces the threads that link the Franklin community with the Franklin Public Schools.

We are at the beginning of November and Lifelong Learning courses are active, rigorous and engaging.
After school we have students studying music through: The String School of Franklin, the After School 4th/5th Grade Band, the 4th/5th Grade Honors Chorus, and Private Music Lessons. Over 1,000 student spaces are filled each week in Solutions, our Extended Day/Enrichment program that operates at each elementary school.
Adults are participating in Child Care Provider courses that award continuing education credit to the participant. Additionally, numerous adults are enrolled in Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba Basics, Zumba Toning, and Zumba. This semester, we partnered with several businesses to offer specialty courses: Getting Paid to Talk with Voice Coaches Development Group, Gourmet Food & Wine Tasting with Mark Lenzi of Franklin Liquors and Donna Lathams of Garden Farms, Beginner's Cold Process Soapmaking with Ann Fisher from The Soapbin, Molly's Apothecary, and Kettlebells for Women with Victoria Lynch of f.i.t. We also have adult students enrolled in Creative Writing, Watercolor, Zentangle, French 1, Italian 1, Digital Photography, and Adobe Photoshop Elements. The Advanced and Intermediate Volleyball classes meet at the HMMS on Monday and Tuesday evenings, and Men's Basketball meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the high school gym.
The Private Music Lesson program offers instruction to elementary school (grade 4 or 5) children through adults. Lessons are available for bass, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar (acoustic, bass or electric), low brass, percussion, piano, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, tuba, and voice. The lessons take place at the high school.

Last evening was Panther Pride Night at Franklin High School. This program welcomes incoming grade 8 students to the high school and shares information about academics and extra curricular activities. The high school was alive with activity as 8th grade students and their parents visited different information tables hosted by school clubs, listened to the Pep Band and a string ensemble, saw a video on the High School Experience, and listened to a presentation by the FHS principal. Very nice.
Tonight, October 25, over 100 high school students and faculty will be attending the Cabaret dress rehearsal at Dean College. This is an exciting partnership between FPS and Dean College.
Tonight is the second of two classes taught by Mr. Phil Hulbig as part of the Adult Education Continuing Education program for child care providers. The class: Behavior Modification and Designing Positive Behavior Intervention Plans, provides a platform for child care providers to learn how to achieve successful positive behavioral approaches and practical solutions to documentation and intervention.
Sunday, November 4,Franklin Adult Education will be hosting an Afternoon Tea, A La Downton Abbey at Pinecrest Country Club in Holliston. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who love tea and/or Downton Abbey to gather and share an afternoon of delicious food served in a welcoming setting.
Indoor walking at FHS has resumed on Monday and Tuesday evenings between 5:30 and 7:30 PM. It will expand to include Wednesday & Thursday evenings, after Daylight Savings Time.
