Adult Education - Online Opportunities

The Town of Franklin is home to over 31,000 people and is a young community with a median age of 34.8 years. Of Franklin residents 25 years and older, it is estimated that between the years of 2005 and 2007, 56% held a Bachelor's degree or higher. An additional 10% held an Associate's degree. These data show that between 2005 and 2007, fully 66% of Franklin residents 25 years and older had at least a 2-year college degree.

Bearing this information in mind, Lifelong Learning's Adult Education focus for the 2009 - 2010 academic year is on certificate programs for adults who already have a degree but due to job loss or changes in the work force they need additional education to refocus their current skills or to learn new skills. Lifelong Learning is addressing this need through courses provided by Ed2go and Gatlin Online Education.

Through Ed2go, Lifelong Learning offers computer courses, courses on writing and publishing, test prep, and more. These classes usually run 6 to 8 weeks and have an identified teacher who is available to answer questions throughout the course.

Gatlin Online Education courses are longer than Ed2go courses, and are focused on the attainment of a certificate. Their courses are designed to provide the workforce skills necessary to acquire professional caliber positions for many in-demand occupations. Gatlin offers over 100 certificate programs in Allied Health, Computer-Internet, and Technical and Construction industries.

For additional information on these and other learning opportunities, please contact Joan Borgatti, Coordinator of Adult Education and Community Learning at 508-541-2100x3178, Monday - Thursday, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
